Our Heritage and Investment Philosophy
Founded in Singapore in 2022, Highland Family Office Pte. Ltd. is a third-generation single-family office dedicated to managing and preserving the private wealth of the Mak family. We invest exclusively as principals.
The Mak family's heritage dates back to the 1870s in Hong Kong, during the final decades of the Qing Dynasty. The family established one of Hong Kong's oldest paper-trading businesses and expanded into real estate development in the 1920s, building a longstanding presence in residential and commercial property development, ownership and management. Over the following decades, the family established a substantial presence in Hong Kong's property sector. In the 1960s, its development activities extended across five streets in Causeway Bay, including Russell Street, Yiu Wa Street and the surrounding neighbourhood; also in Wan Chai, Kowloon and Central. This formed part of a long-standing track record in residential and commercial property development, ownership and management spanning more than a century.
Over successive generations, the family's business interests grew to encompass international trade, manufacturing and financial investments. Its involvement in financial markets evolved into a diversified investment strategy, leading to the formal establishment of the Mak Family Office in 1992, with investments spanning public equities, fixed income, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital.
Today, Highland Family Office carries this legacy forward as an independent, Singapore-based investment entity. We manage an in-house equity portfolio alongside investments in hedge funds, venture capital and private equity, pursuing global opportunities through disciplined investment strategies, prudent risk management and a long-term perspective.
